Clean Air Advantage

Pollution Alert!

Every time garbage trucks come into your neighborhood, starting and stopping frequently, there is a possibility of unnecessarily polluting the air that you and your family breathe.

Who cares?

  - You do.  Your kids do.  And we do.

We live here, too

- All of us at Liberty Disposal live in the Atlanta area too, and we decided to be part of the pollution solution, not part of the problem … and now we can say in writing:

How did we make this happen?

Liberty has invested heavily for cleaner air in three special ways:

1) Using a special blended clean-burning Bio-Fuel,

2) Using only the lowest-emission turbo engines,

3) Using a patented lightweight steel alloy in the
construction
    of custom garbage trucks.

Conclusion?
– We at Liberty are committed to being, and staying, the only hauler in Georgia that is committed to the lowest emissions in our trucks every day. That is our commitment; and that is your Clean Air Advantage.

The Liberty
Clean Air Story
When the founders of Liberty started the business, they had worked previously for a number of trash haulers for years and were challenged with the idea of creating a new trash service without the old practices and technologies that seemed to keep the waste management business from being what it should be in a 21st century community.

The big question was
: Is it possible to create a service with better on-time collection, fewer problems for the resident, less pollution in the neighborhood, reduced traffic, and do all this without charging more money per month than the present haulers?

The big answer was: Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes and Yes! It all hinged on creating a "new generation" waste business from the ground up using the best technologies and the best management practices …. Liberty was ready to "do things right".

This could happen only if Liberty could solve 3 clear problems:

   1) Garbage truck engines did not burn fuel efficiently,

   2) Regular diesel fuel is dirty,

   3) Garbage trucks are too heavy.

Here are the 4 solutions Liberty implemented:

First  Garbage truck engines do not burn fuel efficiently because the majority of them are old designs. The solution? Get rid of the old trucks and run only trucks made in the model year 2005 and newer. These new turbocharged engines use 4 valves per cylinder and employ advanced engine management systems to burn fuel more efficiently, and to put fewer emissions into the air.

Second  Regular diesel fuel is dirty, so Liberty never burns regular diesel fuel, but rather a new custom blended Bio-Fuel. Is this experimental? No, the government has tested Bio-Fuels for years and now has a new chemical standard for them, but people don’t use these fuels much, because they cost much more than plain diesel fuel, and because Bio-Fuel can clog up a truck older than 2005. The new fuel will loosen all the sludgy deposits in older fuel tanks, in the lines and injectors and then, clog the engines.

The only successful strategy is all new fuel and all new trucks.

What is contained in this new Bio-Fuel? After research, Liberty determined that by mixing high grade premium diesel fuel with significant amounts of Soy oil, sometimes blended with cottonseed oil, corn oil, and recycled cooking oil that the tailpipe emissions in the neighborhood could be reduced dramatically.

Recycled cooking oil?
That’s right! From time to time our blend will contain amounts of purified cooking oil that was previously used to cook French Fries or chicken. The Liberty blend of Bio-Fuel is virtually the same as the formula selected by Harvard University in February of 2004 as the new fuel for their campus vehicles. We adjust our Bio-Fuel materials as pricing and availability dictate.  Our goal is to eventually transition to recovered cooking oils as the main component.

The Bio-Fuel that goes into our Liberty trucks is renewable, sustainable, and comes from America, not Saudi Arabia.

Third  Trucks are too heavy because they are constructed of bulky steel that ends up adding too much truck weight everywhere they drive. The solution came from Europe where overweight trucks could tear up their centuries-old streets. An American company bought the rights to produce a new-generation garbage packer in the United States that uses HardOx ® Steel which is significantly harder than regular steel but lighter at the same time. This company then built custom garbage trucks for Liberty using these special steel formulas and advanced structural designs for every new liberty truck that works in Georgia.

The outcome? Lighter, stronger trucks that use less fuel, tires, and cause less damage to your neighborhood streets.

The Final Result
Liberty’s clean-air efforts result in a reduction of tailpipe emissions including: unburned hydrocarbons, sulfate fraction, carbon dioxide, and airborne compounds linked to cancer and asthma ... and that is your Liberty "Clean Air Advantage".
